Right now, it all lives in your head.

You know the policy is in the blue folder. You know the water bill comes out of checking around the 15th, and the spare key is under the frog by the back door. Nobody else in your house knows any of that.

If you're in the hospital for a week, or you can't speak for yourself for a while, your family starts guessing. They open the kitchen drawer and find half batteries, half takeout menus and one mystery key. So, honestly:

  • Would they know where the life insurance policy is?
  • Would they know who to call at your job?
  • Would they know which bills come out on autopay?
  • Would they know what to do with the dog?
  • Would they know how to get into your phone?
  • Would they know where the spare key is?
  • Would they know who does your taxes?
  • Would they know where the car title is?

Why not just use a notebook?

A notebook is a fine place to write. The hard part is knowing what to write, and in what order, so your family can actually use it.

A blank notebook
  • Page one is blank. Where do you even start?
  • Holds only what you remember to write
  • No order, so your family reads it like a diary
  • Nothing stops a password from ending up in it
  • Easy to start, easy to stop on page two
The Kitchen Drawer File
  • Over 850 labeled spaces, so you answer questions instead of inventing them
  • Asks what people forget: the autopays, the water shutoff, who takes the dog
  • In the order your family would look, starting with the page they'd grab first
  • Built on where, not what: no space ever asks for a password or account number
  • A 7-night plan with a tracker on page 2, so it gets finished

A notebook is where you'd write it. The File tells you what to write.

What's inside the 32 pages

The pages ask where things are kept and who to call. No passwords, no full account numbers. Fill in what you know tonight and leave the rest for another evening.

The 1-Page Emergency Sheet

The page someone grabs first: who to call, where the key papers are, what can't wait.

Key documents

Birth certificate, Social Security card, Medicare card, deed, car titles. Where each one is kept.

People to call

Your employer, attorney, accountant, insurance agent and the neighbor with a key. Names and numbers in one place.

Money map, names only

Banks, retirement accounts like a 401(k) and who to contact at each. No account numbers.

Insurance and bills

Every policy and where it's kept. Which bills autopay, which to keep running and which to cancel.

The house, pets and vehicles

The spare key, the water shut-off, who fixes the furnace, who takes the dog, where the car title is.

Digital life

Who can get into your phone and computer, and where your passwords are kept. Never the passwords themselves.

Doctors and pharmacy contacts

Names and numbers for your doctors and pharmacy, and where your medication list is kept.

Your wishes and letters

What you'd want, in your own words, plus pages for a few letters to the people you love.

The first 7 days, and a safe word

A checklist for your family's first 7 days if something happens, a family safe word card and a yearly review page.

Look inside before you buy

These are real pages from the file. Every line is a space you can type into, and every page prints clean in black and white.

Your file is ready right after checkout, and the link comes by email too. Type into it on a computer, or print it in black and white.

  2. Start with one page tonight

Page 3 is the 1-Page Emergency Sheet. It takes about 15 minutes and puts the basics on paper.

  3. One section a night, for seven nights

Page 2 has the plan and a box to tick for each night, about 15 minutes each. Then review it once a year, on your birthday.

Questions

Is this a legal document?

No. The Kitchen Drawer File is a personal organizer, not a legal document, and not a substitute for the advice of an attorney. It does not replace a will, power of attorney, healthcare directive or advice from an attorney, accountant or doctor. Do not write passwords, PINs or full account numbers in it. If you need a will, power of attorney or healthcare directive, talk to an attorney. The file gives you a place to write down where those papers are kept.

There are free templates online. Why pay $14?

Start with our free one if you like, it's page 3 of the File. The File is the complete version: 32 pages in the order your family would look, over 850 labeled spaces so you never wonder what to write, US terms throughout, a 7-night plan with a tracker, and not one space that asks for a password. If it isn't right for you, you have 30 days for a full refund.

What exactly do I get, and how?

PDF files, nothing physical ships. The Kitchen Drawer File is 32 pages and the Parent Edition is 14, both US Letter. Your download link shows on the page right after checkout and comes by email, and you can always ask for a new one. Type into them with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, or print them. Some browsers and Apple Preview may not save what you type.

Do I need to print it?

No. You can type into it on a computer, print it and write by hand, or both. A good setup: type it once, print one copy and keep it where someone you trust knows to look. It prints well in black and white on regular US Letter paper.

Can I type in it?

Yes. Every write-in space is a fillable field. Open the PDF in a free reader like Adobe Acrobat Reader, type and save. Keep the saved copy somewhere you'll find it again.

Will it work on my iPad or phone?

Yes, it opens on both. To type into the fields, use a PDF app that handles forms, like the free Adobe Acrobat Reader app. A phone is fine for quick edits, but the pages are small, so a computer, an iPad or a printed copy is easier for the longer sections.

Do I write my passwords in it?

No, please don't. Never write passwords, PINs, full account numbers or your full Social Security number in it. Paper can be lost, copied or read by the wrong person. Instead, the pages ask where things are kept and who has access. For online accounts, use a password manager and turn on its emergency access feature if it has one. Then write down which password manager you use and who you named.

What if my parents won't talk about it?

That's common, and it's why the Parent Edition comes with a "how to bring it up" script. A gentle way in: fill out your own file first, then ask if they'd like to do theirs too. Start with an easy page that isn't about money, keep it to one page per visit, and try again in a few weeks if the first talk stalls.

Is this a subscription?

No. It's a one-time payment of $14, or $19 for the bundle. No subscription and no renewals. The file is yours to keep and reprint.

What if I'm not in the US?

The file is made for US families and uses US terms like Social Security card, Medicare card, 401(k) and DMV. Many pages work anywhere, like people to call, the house, pets and letters. Outside the US, some labels won't match your paperwork, and you can write in your own. It's sized for US Letter, so on A4 paper choose "fit to page" when you print.

What if it's not for me?

Email help@kitchendrawerfile.com within 30 days of buying and we'll refund you in full, to your original payment method. No questions asked.

How long does it take?

About 15 minutes for the first page. After that, one section an evening, or a weekend if you like to get things done. Then a quick review once a year, on your birthday.

Who makes this, and who is June?

The Kitchen Drawer File is made by our small team at {{LLC_LEGAL_NAME}}. We write and check every checklist. June is our AI-generated host: she presents the checklists in our videos, and she's labeled as AI everywhere she appears. The assistant that answers messages on Instagram and Facebook is automated AI too, and it says so. People answer email: write to help@kitchendrawerfile.com and a person on our team will reply.

One page tonight. The rest when you're ready.

You don't need a free weekend to start. Open the file, fill in the 1-Page Emergency Sheet and tell one person where it is. That one page answers the first questions your family would ask.
